About Garden Tools And
Equipment
If you’re into gardening you know how important it is to have the right tools and equipment. The right tools can
mean the difference between working easy and working hard. Depending on your experience you can get gardening tools
ranging from basic to professional. There have been many changes in garden tools over the years, from the digging
sticks to today's specialized tools, such as garden tools and equipment that have been ergonomically designed which
help the user reduce the strength and flexibility needed for a lot of the gardening chores. These tools are usually
lighter in weight and are designed with specially shaped handles and mechanisms to help relieve the strain on
different body parts.
There are some basic tools and equipment that every gardener needs. Here are some of the basic gardening tools
and their uses. Pruners, shears and clippers are used for cutting and trimming small plants. Large scissors and
loppers are used for the bigger trimming and cutting jobs. When digging, weeding and preparing the ground for
planting seeds, shovels, hoes, rakes and pitchforks are all useful tools. Heavy metal rakes can be used to smooth
out tilled soil and breaking up clumps of dirt. Another basic garden tool is the garden hose used for watering your
plants. Adding a spray attachment to the hose is helpful when watering the more delicate plants and shrubs.

There are some not so basic garden tools that are useful in certain situations. Some of those tools are pole
pruners for cutting hard to reach branches and pruning saws for cutting sticky, gummy plants. There are even
folding saws that you can put in your gardening bag. Trowels, which are like a hand shovel, are used to dig shallow
trenches for seeding small or patio gardens. Patio and small gardens also need watering and using a hose to water
them may be too much. So you might want to consider using a watering can instead. Other not so basic garden tools
are garden forks for breaking up the soil, leaf blowers or vacuums for getting leaves out of your lawn and garden
and hose reels for rolling up a long garden hose, which could be a hazard if left laying around.
Some manufacturers have even designed an apprentice selection of garden tools. These light, safe, practical
tools were designed to spark an interest in children for gardening. These tools are ideal for showing young
gardeners the joy of gardening.
